The barcode number is a number that identifies many commerical products including music albums.

It appears on the product packaging both encoded as a barcode and below it as text e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:UPC-A-036000291452.png . When this text is transcribed, any spaces and dashes are omitted, e.g. 8427328130431.

On a music album, the barcode can be found

  • on the back cover, else/and
  • on one of the CDs itself, often printed quite small, else
  • not at all, in the case of albums published without barcode numbers, e.g. by self-publishing artists.

Barcode numbers consists of 12, 13 or 14 digits. All lengths can be represented as a 14-digit
