This page gives some details about tango.info performance date sources.

Since sources contradict each other, at least some are wrong.

The most trustworthy are probably the dates given in the graphics linked from The Argentine Talking Machine Works - Buenos Aires, since they might be the closes to the real event.

The trustworthiness of other sources is hard to estimate, since most don't give their sources, or give a source that doesn't give its source.

Photographs or scans of paper where recording/performance dates had been written down by the record company, e.g. The Argentine Talking Machine Works - Buenos Aires
78 rpm labels contain the year, e.g. T.K. from 1955: https://tango.info/?q=s-54
Performers emailed dates of their own performances, e.g. Quinteto Angel, Ensemble Hyperion
CD covers
- CD issued by record company or under their label (e.g. some Reliquias CDs marked as EMI, contain dates for Odeon recordings - Odeon is owned by EMI
- CD issued by third party, made from 78 rpm transfers, e.g. Euro Records/BATC, CTA
Discographies (e.g. todotango.com, tangoteca, Francisco Canaro discography by Christoph Lanner, Encyclopedic Discography of Victor Recordings)
