The problem
Your digital audio player (DAP) labels your MP3 files 'Unknown' or otherwise fails to show the tag data - title, artist etc.
The probable cause
Your files' tag data is in ID3V2.4 and/or UTF format, which few DAPs recognise. Most DAPs recognise the format ID3v2.3 ISO-8859-1 .
The solution
Convert your files' tag data to ID3v2.3 ISO-8859-1 format as follows:
- Go here to download Mp3tag V2.39f or later, install and launch.
- Click Tools, Options, Tags Mpeg and ensure that under Write, ID3v2.3 ISO-8859-1 is selected.
- Click OK.
- Click File | Change Directory and select the directory contaning your music files.
- Click Edit | Select All Files, then File | Save tag .
- Click File | Exit
Now resend your files to your DAP. Your DAP should show the titles, artist etc. as required.
