Senthil Baskaran - DJ based in Scotland, UK.

Apart from Resident DJ at Milongas in Scotland, Guest DJ for Milongas in:

Style
  • My preference of playing, listening and dancing music is mostly traditional, the favourite orchestras being Juan D’Arienzo or some rhythmic and energetic Donato, Tanturi or Biagi to get the crowd on the feet, Troilo, Pedro Laurenz, Agostino, Canaro or Calo thrown in and taking the crowd to romantic peaks with Fresedo or dramatic twists with Pugliese.

  • I play the music in Tandas of 3 or 4 songs and use a Cortina depending on the crowd and the event. I try not to keep the same tone of music for more than two tandas and tend to prefer standard TTVTTM or TVTM flow for the evening. But I do change the sequence if the floor demands it, same goes with playing classics and experimentation (which I keep it safely minimal). I spend a lot of time in choosing the right cortina for the evening considering the vibe, time of the day, speciality of the evening so as to aid the energy and keep the floor buzzing with positive energy.

DJing console and equipment:
  • I use good quality MP3 files that have been pre-listened, tagged and well organised. I take a lot of time listening, selecting, tagging and organising my collection. I use my laptop to play the songs and also use a high quality / noise reducing external sound card which helps reducing the background noises in old recordings. I have a mixer-equaliser which I can carry to the events if required - I use equalisers to further suit the environment and also adjust it to suit the specific songs. If there is no analogue equaliser in the venue, I tend to use a digital equaliser through the computer. You can tell me about the DJing equipment and the environment in your venue. I carry a 3.5mm / RCA to 6.35mm stereo phono converter and a 3m 3.5mm RCA extension cable. I can arrange for any specific cabling attachments to suit your DJ system. I have an external hard-drive and also a backup just in case.

  • I DJ purely out my passion for Tango and do not expect any monetary gains from it.

“La meditacion en los pies” – Tango to me is a meditative journey, a love affair of 2 feathers dancing together to the tune of the wind. The music enables it all, and as a DJ I take great humility in being part of that invisible, subtle wind that carries the two feathers, a momentary bliss. It is a humbling and heart warming experience to feel connected with so many people gently floating together at peace.
