Getting around

When you are in Bangkok, pick up free English language BK magazine, this will tell you about concerts, shopping and events happening weekly in Bangkok and surrounding areas. Public transportation's best bet are the BTS and the underground. Taxi is the best way to get around as all taxis are now with meters and many of the drivers can understand English and are avaliable 24 hours.

Eating and Drinking

Food and drinks in Bankok are plenty, but be weary of drinking water and ice espeically in the summer month when the weather is most hot and humid and the food can go bad faster than you can do a gancho.

For a romantic dinner and some drink in a quiet venue with great view of the river, try "The Deck" at "Arun Residence" - best part, everybody speaks English but there are no tourists. [1] The Deck is close by Sunset Road, where you can find many small bars and restaurants as well as the Palace.

Another great place to grab a drink is at Tuba at Ekamai soi 21, Sukhumvit This spacious two-story restaurant triples as gallery, bar and furniture shop. It’s possible to enjoy Thai dishes and western fare whipped up to suit the local palette, admire the works of aspiring artists, wind down with after work cocktails or simply drop by to snag some furniture. Closes during Thai New Year week (around April 13-17th) Because Tuba is located in Ekamai area, there are many clubs, pubs and restaurants around. Getting a Taxi here at 4am is never a problem.

Tango Clothes

There are no rules as to what you can wear on the dance floor, however, if you are attending a Milonga, please respect other dancers and dress up a bit. Your clothes/dresses should be comfortable and allow you to move freely without getting your heels or others heels getting caught up in it. Consider Bangkok's hot and humid weather in mind when dressing for milongs and practicas, be prepare and have a change of shirts if you know you sweat easily.

Etiquette

The tango group in Bangkok is so small, everybody gets to dance with everybody. There are few male dancers in Bangkok, so don't be shy if you feel the eyes of all the girls in the room looking at you.

Bangkok is a tropical city, hot and humid is the nature of our weather pattern so it is advaciable to shower before attending a Milonga. For those who smokes, try to avoid smoking during a milonga or practica as many of the dancers are not smokers and the smell can be distracting.

Because Tango in Bangkok is very young, one might find a lack in dance floor etiquette. Call me old fashion but I find that the lack of general dance floor good manner is not only discouraging to a visiting dancers but also dangerous.
